Neighbourhood Watch
Sandie Rosser explains the situation:
‘Many years ago we had a thriving Neighbourhood Watch Association. Our Neighbourhood Watch was formed because we were experiencing a level of crime we had not been used to. We used to liaise the police and were given warnings when similar crimes were being committed in near by areas and were able to inform everyone via a newsletter. We also gave advice on how to prevent thefts and how to keep your homes safe. We had an arrangement with an Insurance Broker who gave the villagers a discount on their home insurance if they were members of the Neighbourhood Watch.
Perhaps we do not have enough crime to warrant this type of committee and our community must be congratulated. Over the last few years our Neighbourhood Watch has ceased to function and as it still has considerable funds which are held in an account managed by the treasurer I feel, as a founder member, that the time has come to either form a new committee or close the account and decide what to do with the money. Originally we changed a membership fee of £1 a year to raise funds, and to which a high proportion of villagers contributed. If you have any thought on this matter please post a message on this website (cecilia@gwaelod-y-garth.org.uk) and perhaps we could have a public meeting.’
